Ontario Provincial Police recently charged two people with driving impaired.

The first was the result of a RIDE program set up on Highway 12 near Wye Valley Road on Thursday, August 22.

At around 1:48 a.m., an officer suspected a driver of being impaired by drugs.

The driver was brought to a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer at the OPP detachment.

Robert Belanger, 65, of Penetanguishene was then charged with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs. He was also charged with operating a motor vehicle without insurance and driving while under suspension.

Then at around 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, staff at a Tay Township marina called OPP to report what they suspected could be an impaired driver causing a disturbance.

Owen Kitsemetry, 48, of Barrie has been charged with operation while impaired - alcohol, and operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

In addition, both drivers had their licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicles were impounded for a week.

“If you see a possible impaired operator on our roadways, waterways or trails please 'Make the Call' and dial 911 as impaired driving never ends well, please make a plan to get home safely,” OPP said in a news release.
