With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Erwin Rusch, loving partner of 47 years to Janice, devoted father to Lisa (Daniel) and Dan†, cherished grandfather to Tiffany (Josh), Sarah, and Savannah, brother to Lina†, Hans†, Walter†, Freda, and Lisa. He was a great friend to many.
After a 3-year battle with cancer, Erwin passed away peacefully in his sleep at home, surrounded by so much love.
Erwin came from Switzerland in his early 20s to learn English and decided Canada was where he wanted to make a life for himself. He started several successful companies where he made lifelong friends. He was a founding member of the Midland Bay Sailing Club, a member of the Midland Rotary Club for many years, and inspired many young men when he volunteered as a Boy Scout / Venturer leader.
His accomplishments continued …
At 60, he learned how to play the piano! When he was 65, he thought it would be fun to have a motorcycle, and then at 70, he earned his pilot’s license, bought a plane, and spent many hours flying around Ontario.
Erwin was a great outdoors man and shared his love of the outdoors with his friends and love ones. He taught us how to ski, fish, cottage, sail, farm, drive, and all the important things in life!
He was a huge presence in our lives and will always be missed.
His legacy will live on in our hearts forever.
Cremation has taken place, as well as a private family gathering at the island cottage.
